My daughter’s best friend is here at our house right now am I am watching from a distance. She is only six years old and she is having a hard time dealing with her parents’ separation. I think that there is also some Parental Alienation going on. I told her that whenever she wants to come over here to ask her mother because she is more than welcome. She has been here after school each day for the entire week.

I got in a little conversation with my seven year old nephew the other day. He is the type of kid that scares me. He is always living on the dangerous side. He said right now he is planning on Santa giving him a new Razor E300 Electric Scooter. He said that he heard on a commercial that there is Christmas in July this year. I tried to explain that it is not entirely true about the whole Christmas in July.

So, your baby is now a toddler and fast becoming deviant. When your every request used to be done without any questions asked, it is now met with a strong “no”.

Toddlers are just starting to know what independence is, and they don’t want to be told what to do. This is why requests from parents are often met with a “no”. In a lot of cases though, kids only say no because this is what they hear from their parents all the time. Kids sometimes say “no” even when they mean “yes”. This is the main reason why parents are discouraged to say no unless they absolutely have to.

Here are more tips on what to do when your child says “no”.

Communicate clearly with your kids. Before asking them to do something, bend down to their level and look at them straight in the eyes. This lets them know that we mean what we say.

Try phrasing requests in a different manner. Instead of asking your child “do you want to take a bath?” simply say “it’s time to take a bath”. Asking open-ended questions give them the chance to say no, and that’s what you need to prevent. Giving them the chance to choose what to do is also effective. Instead of asking them whether they want to take a bath or not, do it like these:”do you want to take a bath now or do you want to brush your teeth first?”

Consider the reasons why your child is saying “no”. Is that thing you’re asking him to do even attainable at his age? Is he too tired to stand up and take a bath after playing all day long? Sometimes, there is a reason why your child is saying “no”, and you have to consider that.
