Help Your Child Eat Better: Tips Parents Need To Read by Cynthia Howard

Toddlers are picky eaters. Often, meal time with them alone is enough to cause stress in a parent. You can try pleading, forcing or getting angry at them – but there’s no promise that they would eat what you’re feeding them.

Food is the best source of vitamins and nutrients which your child needs for growing. If all your kid eats are chicken fingers, then there’s no way that he’ll get his needed daily amount of nutrition. Health really is a concern, so here are some helpful tips on how you can get your child to eat.

TRY DIFFERENT FOODS

Having a bowl of oatmeal every morning is kind of boring, and that may be the reason why your child doesn’t want to eat. Keep him interested by trying different kinds of food, such as pancakes or muffins. The difference in taste and texture is interesting to children who are naturally curious, so help yourself by learning new recipes that you can try.

USE A LITTLE CREATIVITY

Kids love playing, and anything that involves playing is great in their book. Having this in mind, make meal time fun too! Instead of serving potatoes and turkey sandwich on a plate, use some ketchup to draw around the sandwich and turn it into a house. You can even arrange the potatoes so it becomes the garden. Just use a little imagination, and I’m sure you can make meal time fun for your child.

PREVENT DISTRACTION

Kids are easily distracted – even by little things. To help him focus on his food, turn the TV off and don’t allow him to bring toys to the table. Seeing adults eat will also entice him to do the same, so eat as a family instead of feeding the child first.

FOLLOW A MEAL SCHEDULE

Feeding your child at the same time everyday keeps him from having snacks in between meals which may ruin his appetite when it’s time to eat.
